Looking for a boost to a team that hit .248 in July, the Red Sox went out and got Victor Martinez from the Indians before the Friday non-waiver trade deadline. Well...
Martinez through June 3 (53 games):
.352/.425/.567 with nine homers and 40 RBI
Martinez since June 4 (47 games - this includes his 1-for-5 debut last night):
.198/.295/.331 with six homers and 28 RBI
That, my friends, is a pretty lengthy funk.

Don't you know he is a better hitter than he has shown in the last two months? BTW he had five hits today in Baltimore. You need to take what he has done over an entire career to judge him. But of course, in newsvine, where the Red Sox, its meant to be as negative as possible then bask in the glow of anything that goes wrong.
My thought is that he started slumping the day they told him he would be on the trade block. Guy had a different elaborate handshake for every member of the team, he was feeling the stress of imminently having to start over at handshake ground zero with another team. Now that he's in Boston, he's already raking.
