Holy moly! Rosenthal:
Jake Peavy has finally agreed to pitch for the Chicago White Sox.
Peavy waived his no-trade clause to approve a trade to the AL Central contenders, as first reported by SI.com. The Padres received left-handers Aaron Poreda and Clayton Richard, and righties Dexter Carter and Adam Russell.
"I think Jake just got to the breaking point," Axelrod said. "One team wanted him bad enough, and the other team wanted to get rid of him."
No one -- I repeat no one -- was predicting this one since the original talks broke down months ago.
Bold move by the White Sox and by Peavy, really. Given that prospect Aaron Poreda was involved, it was a shrewd move for San Diego too.

Not an easy day to be a Padres fan, but it is blatantly clear that this had to happen. Payroll is becoming my least favorite word in the English language.
How can Peavy in a boot on July 31 be worth as much as Peavy pre-boot on May 21?
The boot came off on July 17 Mo. He's also been throwing of late, but not off a mound. His agent, Barry Axelrod, confirmed his recent throwing in an interview on San Diego's XX Sports Radio this afternoon.
It is an interesting trade. I can't remember the last time a person on the disabled list was traded.
I was just exaggerating. My point was, and is, that he should theoretically have had a lot more trade value on May 21, seemingly healthy and this is basically the same trade package that was agreed upon then. It doesn't seem to make sense on the face of it.
When the team publicly released statements regarding how they'd finally found their designated hitter, Cliff Floyd, I gave up on anything the Padres ever do making any sense.
We unfortunately won't know if this deal is good for the Padres for a few years.
As long as Peavy can pitch in September, it's a win for CHW, and ironically (regardless) for SD too. Poreda made some shaky appearances last year, but he's still young. We won't look back at this as a game breaker for either team (I hope).
Yeah. This sucks. Padres management theory- take years building young prospects, have good season, tear it down over the next 2 years in a fire sale, make sure those great players become all stars elsewhere, cellar dwell for a few years, then repeat...
It's a good deal for the Sox. Bold move by GM Kenny Williams. You have to give up something good to get something good. Peavy's ankle will heal. It's not his arm or shoulder. Whenever he comes back, this season or next, it will be big plus for the Sox. They will have a very good pitching rotation. One of the strongest in AL.
It looks like the Sox will be in the mix for post-season for a few years at least.
BTW, you CHW fans out there, remember that Peavy doesn't do too well in post season play. I hope for your sakes he can get it together if you do make it into the playoffs.
If you can't pay him now, why sign him earlier? Looks to me like Minor league baseball is now in San Diego. Not did you only scare away Peavy, Gregg Maddux took the money and ran. Messy Hollywood divorce equals bad baseball team in market with Dodgers, Giants, and Angels. Good luck
