Washington and Florida seem to make a lot of trades:
First baseman Nick Johnson has been traded from the Washington Nationals to the Florida Marlins. The last-place Nationals got left-hander Aaron Thompson from Florida in a deal that was completed just before Friday's 4 p.m. deadline for making trades without waivers. Johnson gives the Marlins a patient hitter with pop who should boost their lineup.
Johnson is useful, but I'm not sure how much "pop" he has anymore. Since coming back from his big injury that caused him to miss the entire 2007 season, his slugging percentage is down in the low .400s. And, it's worth mentioning, his defense is not what it was.
Still, a good pickup for Florida, who remains squarely in the wild card hunt.
