The article you thought you'd never see in the New York tabloids: A-Rod, Clutch God!
But for now we have to admit that the Yankees with Rodriguez this season have been something very different than the Yankees without him. More often than not, A-Rod's moments have meant something in the standings.
OK, that's a bit deceiving, because the rest of the article catalogs -- unfairly as usual -- all of the tired arguments the New York press has deployed against Rodriguez. He beats up on losing teams. He gets big hits when it doesn't matter. He wilts when it does. He's probably not the Antichrist, but he plays bridge with him once a week. You know the drill.
But this article actually acknowledges that the Yankees are better with Alex Rodriguez than without him, and that represents progress.

the New Your Press is made up of mostly fat guys who never played the game. They're bitter, nasty and often get hysterical over the smallest of matters. In today's sports market, where big mney can be had outside of NY, I can see why many athletes avoid playing here. Who wants to be called a child murder if and when they make an error? NY Sports writers are one, very small step, above pond scum.
Thank God for the interent, where intelligent sports writing can be found on-line... because you hardly ever find it in ther NY newspapers.
I'm be the first to admit I don't like the guy but he's a good ballplayer, and the recent "Now that he has to stay off the 'roids he's turning to crap" stuff is just that, crap. Yeah, his best years might be behind him (and that's still a "might") but even his not best years are still ahead of a lot of players. I don't have to like the guy to admit he can perform.
So far not in the playoffs, but maybe this will be his year...
