Jon Heyman, Sports Illustrated: "Mets' manager Manuel, GM Minaya assured jobs are safe."
Adam Rubin, New York Daily News: "Sources: Omar Minaya's job as Mets GM not safe despite contract."
Call me crazy, but someone here is gonna need a new source when all of this is done.

Should have already been fired, the GM has failed miserably, & the coach will he is just another guy with a bad ass mentality. Thinks he is still a tough guy. Also lets be real, the GM has been awful, does he know there are other races out there that play baseball rather well. Just asking.
Couldn't agree more. Minaya is so blatant in his penchant for Latin players that he has seeminlgy not only disenfranchised players on the team, but he has also lost his fan base. Not to mention, just because players are Latin, doesn't mean that they will all get along. The lineup (when healthy) reads like a bad joke...Two Puerto Ricans, two Dominicans, two Venezuelans, two Mexicans, and two guys from the south walk in to a bar.... Minaya is a horrible horrible GM. He signed, KRod, Santana, and Beltran. Wow!! does it take a genius to sign the top free agents each off season. Any fan with a pulse would make that move. He has failed so miserably in building a team. I will not even get into the farm system which appears to completely void of any talent. Let's look at his gems that were untouchable, Lastings Milledge, Danny Murphy, Fernando Martinez, these guys are average on a great day. How about we talk about the contract offer for Moises Alou, when we shipped off Cliff floyd because he was too old. How about the contract to Luis Castillo rather than get Orlando Hudson. What about the trade of Brian Bannister for Ambiorix Burgos. I am convinced that the only reason he went out and got JJ Putz was because his last named ended in Z. As long as he is at the helm the Wilpons are getting what they deserve, a horrbile team of second rate players, and all stars who will reach their potential. Long live the '86 Mets!!
Wow! what an angry non-latin fan... Look; I don't think that the reason there are many latin players on the mets is because Minaya wanted it like that! Plus, how can that be the reason they lost their "fan base"? If they lost fan base is because they suck - PERIOD! Has nothing to do with nationality. You need to wake up and realize that society has grown past racism my friend... So happens that getting those "latin" players was also getting the BEST AVAILABLE PLAYERS at the time. Beltran was the biggest prize during this free agent year. Pedro was a MUST get for the mets. Santana is one of the best pitchers in baseball, Luis Castillo was a necesity at 2b and only one available. Now lets see - Pelf is white and sucks, Putz got hurt, Church was a bust with the mets, Murphy hasn't lived up to his potential that oh by the way, was potential Minaya had high regards for, they went after Lowe but he decided on Atlanta instead. Who else was available (white or black) that would have been better than the latin players? If they would have traded for Manny you would have been wearing his jersey.
You don't like latin players? Root for the Red Sox who have ONE on their lineup everday and they will likely deal him [Papi] in the off season, and one or two in their bullpen and NONE in their rotation.
my blogg @
Delfino forgets, Castillo was under contract this year and next, and yes ORLANDO WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT club house leader and bring great defense as well but regardless the problem is Not Castllo, it is THE INJURIES.
AND I LOVE D-WRIGHT, but how come he can't hit and we are losing one run games, he CAN'T CARRY A TEAM, and he ain't LATIN...............
AND THE BANNISTER DEAL, I FORGET WHO BUT ALOT OF PLAYERS WERE FLIPPED BY THE MET'S IN AND ABOUT THAT TRADE , CHECK IT OUT.....
The Mets are now reaping the curse of Citifield. when you build a stadium with little thought about the Team you have instead of the past you have ruined the karma for said team. The Mets team as constitued is a darn good team, but the injuries, Mets inadequate doctors, and the SCHITIFIELD have had a terrible affect on them.
GREAT POST, I thought we might need to RID our selves of ALL the LATIN players ........... because as u know u can't win with the LATIN PLAYERS....Big Papi, Pujols- the machine- , K-rod, MARIANO, THESE GUYS ARE SCRUBS.......
Jason Bay/Nate McClouth/ Jack Wilson/Nyjer Morgan. I see players in Pittsburgh who play their heart out. They know they are part of a "minor league" team who wants the world to stand up and take notice of them. Tell me that Adam Laroche at first would be a god send. And he's 10 yrs younger than Delgado. Bring Andy Laroche over too, and I would almost bet that Reyes gets better tomorrow.
The Mets need an organization that can build a team (a la mid-80's). The problem is that to build a team you need leaders, and the ghost of M. Donald Grant still runs the club.
Maybe Madoff did a lot more damage to the team than they are letting on.
Put Mike Jacobs back with David Wright and you'll see something magic.
Bring Andy Laroche over too, and I would almost bet that Reyes gets better tomorrow????
Got news for you, Reyes is NEVER going to get better unless he gets a brain transplant followed by a heart transplant cause he has neither. Physical talent gets you into the minors.
The plus side is maybe now all those stinkin Mets fans will stay home instead of invading Citizen's Bank Park in Philly.
The Mets ought to pack it in for this year and rid themselves of both of them. The team lacks the kind of leadership it needs to be successful. They need to begin rebuilding now.
515geo - what the heck are you talking about? karma? and the rest of you - Omar is a lousy GM, but not because he "stacks the deck" with latin players. His lack of reaction to the injuries is criminal. And who among the Mets' management can reign in Jose Reyes? how long can he milk that injury? The Mets' problems have nothing to do with karma, or stadiums, they need fresh leadership in the front office and a take charge manager. And if Madoff caused as much damage as lancguy seems to think, don't you think there would be a sell off of the remaining assets (Wright, Santana)? Please get a grip Mets "fans"...
Why isn't anyone quizzing the great Omar about his trainers. It sounds to me like many of these injuries could have been prevented with a good exercise program.
they will need to LQQK at this- GREAT POINT
And it took this long to figure it out?
Love all of the comments. Citi field couldn't have been more poorly concieved. if I was DWright I would take the left field wall as a clear message that I am not the franchise player.
Could not agree more about Reyes. the guy is a joke. tons of talent and not a care in the world about winning, team, work ethic, etc. He will never amount to anything in a Mets uniform. It truly is unbelievable what he gets away with. All with that stupid smile on his face. What is he worth to us, nothing. He makes a play he makes an error, guy doesn't seem to care. At bat, ..let's fake a drag bunt for strike one, watch strike two, and then lunge at one in the dirt for strike three. Doesn't matter I am going to walk to the dugout with a smile!
Someone has to be held accountable when a team is decimated by injuries, the way the mets have been this season. this many injuries is not a fluke. Trainers should go.
The Mets as constituted are nothing but disparate parts. I am not sure I have ever seen a team with less chemistry. I say we keep Beltran, Santana, KROD and Wright, and sell off every other piece of the team. It's like my father told me, this is our lot as Mets fans. They are historically a bad team, and a bad organization. This team should have been overhauled at the end of 07. Mets Rangers Knicks, is it me or does NY have the worst ownership in the country. I guess it is true that being rich doesn't make you smart.
It became obvious last year that Minaya is classless after the way he handled Eillie Randolphs firing who is a class act, I see Jerry Manual as a back stabber who just wanted the managers job. While I agree Minaya signed top free agents that were no brainers he has failed to build a team with character and I think it stems from his lack of it himself. Somebody needs to remind Mr. Wilpon Met fans deserve more.
Reyes, Delgado, Maine, Perez, Putz, etc. on disabled list. New ballpark with unfriendly dimensions. Most of all, an ownership group that lost a TON with Madoff and cannot replace the expensive but injured stars. Not so fast on blaming Omar and Jerry.
The Mets were doomed since the beginning of the season when they missed in signing an average rbi player...we could have signed Ibañez, Abreu, etc., etc. but we got carried away with KRod signing and put our hopes on players like Tatis, Delgado, Sheffield and the rest of the mediocre players, thinking that we didn't need help, which was as we see now a really bad decision...Minaya is not a players developer, he is just an average general manager and he created an average team...it will take a long time before we could rebuild our farm system and develop good players...changing the manager is not healthy for the team's morale, especially in New York...the manager can not do miracles with lousy players...
I say fire both of them and make an offer to Pat Gillick he can't refuse.
The Mets would be better off with Lenny Dykstra running the team. Omar has depleted the farm system and for some reason continues to sign up old, washed has been's. I still believe Willie Randolph was the right man for that team if only Omar would get rid of the underachievers and get some talent to go with Santana and Wright. Reyes I am starting to think is a bust.
Jerry Manuals done, but i bet the Mets keep their GM. It is arguable the Mets having a team in place that could and maybe should be winning but isn't. Thats the manager. He will go down. Don't expect a GM change especially since the Mets did sign some key free agents and honostly have a good team, when healthy. But they are not healthy. They are not meshing well. They are not getting along. And they are not motivated. That screams manager. His head will roll in August if the Mets still have an outside chance, otherwise its going to be the end of the year until the change is made.
I am a long time Mets fan and a very old Brooklyn Dodger fan. In all the years that I have been watching baseball I have never seen a more disoriented team then this years addition of the Mets. As others have said this team needs a complete overhaul from the top down. When a VP challenges ballplayers in the minors to fistfights there is something wrong with the physic of this organization. Mr. Minya has had years to bring a team that plays inspired baseball to this city but has failed, he should be replaced. True injuries have played a role this year but what about the previous 2 years? The farm system is in shreds, the manager inspires no one, the players drop flyballs and keep smiling and the fans like myself are cheated. This team needs a complete rebuild and everyone should be held responsible. This is not a major league ballclub as it is constituted today.
Maybe Tony Bernazard needs to be promoted. I know if a fifty something year old comes at a team, rips off his shirt like the Hulk, he's beyond frustrated and he means business... Of course less injuries to their biggest stars would be number one improvement, maybe they need Bernazard to com in and say Bern...MUST SMASH!!!!
