The Rangers are excited about the possibility of Roy Halladay coming to Texas:
Blue Jays right-handed ace Roy Halladay was the No. 1 topic of discussion in the Rangers clubhouse before Wednesday's game with the Angels . . . "I'd love to have him here," outfielder Marlon Byrd said. "I don't know what price it would take to get him, but I'd love to have him." "You always want people who you feel could help the ballclub," outfielder Josh Hamilton added. "It's not my decision to make, so I don't know. But I want whatever would help this ballclub win games and get to the postseason. I'll leave that decision up to the front office." "We're going to look to improve the club every way we can," [GM Jon] Daniels said. "I'll leave it at that."
There's also excitement in Philadelphia, St. Louis and a bunch of other places.
As I said the other day, I don't see Texas, given their owners' financial difficulties, being able to pay the $22M+ Halladay is owed this year and next, and that's even if Halladay were willing to waive his no-trade clause to go to the ballpark where pitching goes to die. As for Philly and St. Louis, I still don't think they have the chips, and I still question whether Halladay will even be traded. Everyone is keying so much on J.P. Ricciardi's comments about shopping him a couple of days ago, but not too many people noticed when he said this yesterday:
Riccardi isn't optimistic a trade will happen.
"My gut feeling is no, we won't, because there aren't too many teams out there who are willing to give us the significant package of prospects we would need to make this go," Riccardi told the Globe. "Teams protect their prospects."
Posturing? Maybe. But I still kind of doubt it, and while everyone goes crazy trying to figure out where Halladay is going, I'm going to stand by my original statement: He ain't goin' anywhere.

Halladay is worth the money and the prospects. He's an ace on any pitching staff and arguably MLB's best starting pitcher. The only risk is injury. However, you have that risk with whatever prospects you trade him so I find it a bad argument against making a trade.
If I were a team interested in trading for him I would be more concerned about the performance of my team than with his performance. Unless you're a team contending for the post-season I wouldn't be looking at him. He's probably got 5 good years left.
Go Yankees...
The Red Baron over at Viva El Birdos has a detailed rundown of what it might take and mean for the Cardinals to land Halladay here:

The rumor mill is Toronto wants J. Happ, minor blue chipper Drabek, and 4 more players. TOO TOO TOO Much
I agree with you, Craig. Doc ain't goin' nowhere, for exactly the reasons Ricciardi says he isn't optimistic.
At least it gives everybody something to talk about during what was looking to be a dull trade season.
I would think the Blue Jays would begin any discussions with St. Louis with the name "Colby Rasmus," and if I'm John Mozeliak, I have no idea what my response would be.
I would love to see the CUBS make a move to get Halladay! God knows they have the money (granted...that may be off the table during the sale) and a stable of "name" players (most of whom are under-performing now) that they could use as bargaining chips. Such a move as this would certainly light a fire under the butts of the Cubs who remain!!!!
Why would anyone in their right mind want to trade for Halladay? Did you see what that loser did today?
He went up against the (Devil) Rays with tons of attention on him and he choked, BIG TIME. He gave up more than a hit an inning, posted an ERA over a run higher than what he'd done up to this point in the season, and LOST THE GAME!
He obviously doesn't know how to pitch to the score, doesn't know how to win the game when his team is counting on him. I wouldn't trade a bag of baseballs for this chump. LOSER!
I'm certain GBSimons is either speaking tongue in cheek, or perhaps lost a bundle on the jays today.
GBSimmons congrats you win the award for knowing the least about baseball!!
I don't think I would trade J A Happ (rookie Phillies phenom) for Halladay even up.
JMM, you figured out my ruse. My tongue was firmly in cheek.
I didn't think too many people would reply since I posted so late in the day, but I was curious whether my ignorant rant would arouse much of a reaction.
