"We all work every day from 9 a.m. to midnight, and basically 12 months a year. I'll be glad to have Ryan help if he wants to. I'll give him a badge and he can be my deputy."
--Brewers' GM Doug Melvin, reacting to Ryan Braun's statements on Sunday that the pitching staff has to "throw the ball a little bit better" and that the team had to go out and make a move to "show everybody that we're for real."
This is all entertaining so I hope they keep sniping back and forth at each other. But if you're Doug Melvin, rather than fire back, don't you hold your tongue and instead call Braun into your office and tell him that you don't want to hear him calling everyone out again? Maybe it's not as much fun, but the boss' first priority should be to restore order, not contribute to disorder, and taking the high, silent road is way more likely to put an end to this kind of thing.
