Yeah, I suppose that's corny, but there's really no other word to describe him. He completely dominated the Cardinals last night, staying perfect until the fifth inning and remaining near perfect for the rest of the game. Other than a double to Pujols -- who tends to get his no matter who's pitching -- no one could do a thing against the guy. The Cardinals didn't even make him work, as he threw 95 pitches in a complete game.
Not that this was anything new. Over his last four starts he's 3-1 (three complete games) with a 1.03 ERA and a K/BB ratio of 37-3. Dude won the Cy Young last year. Though 16 starts in 2008 he was 8-1 with a 2.54 ERA and K/BB ratio of 103-40. Through 16 starts this year he's 8-2 with a 2.37 ERA and a K/BB ratio of 132-28. Anyone doubt that he's going to win the Cy Young again?
With nasty stuff like that Lincecum could be excused for being a bit cocky. Not that he's the least bit cocky. Here he is after yesterday's game:
When I saw the lineup card today, I thought they're throwing some pretty good guys out there. But then I thought, 'I'm good. I'm here for a reason. I can get these guys out if I make my pitches the way I need to' . . . This game can be humbling. The second you go out there thinking that you're hot s-, then they hit four home runs off you. That's the last thing I want to do. I'm not getting ahead of myself. I'm not thinking I'm going to shut anybody down because of what I did. It's what I'm doing now.
And what he's doing is shutting everybody down.

My Giants ROCK!
I'm becoming of fan of the TB Rays now that I live in Florida........
But Gotta love the G's!
:)
First there was Tim Lincecum. Then there was Tommy Hanson. How great is it that we have a renaissance of dominating mullet pitchers, a whole new young generation. Rest easy Rod Beck, your work is done here.
Wow it's great to finally follow a Giants team with a strong pitching rotation that isn't over the hill and trying to win games and titles by just hitting more home runs!
Phil in Portland
Lincecumbelievable
Best pitcher in baseball, better than Holliday too. Giants are also starting to win on the road. they could be the most dangerous team in baseball this 2nd half. Get into the playoffs with that starting pitching & who knows what will happen.
watched him for years around WA and then UW (GO DAWGS!!). So wish Mariner ass i mean brass would have snagged him over Brandon Morrow... hmmmmm think someone would have known a thing or two about Lincecum since he was throwing like this at UW.... oh but he doesn't have a typical throwing action... Whatev
Where is Brandon Morrow these days???? and i digress
You would think that with such a high k/bb ratio batter's would be swinging more. Dudes, the guy is throwing strikes, swing!
If he were in the AL, though, he'd lose the Cy Young to Zack Grienke.
Wacthed the Giants-Cards last night. I play fantasy so I know how good this guy is - he's the best in the NL by far. But watching the game - and watching that K of Pujols - I mean he made him look baaaad. I've never seen anything like it. Pujols almost tipped his cap. This guy ROX!
Giant fan for 35 plus years (hence my email name ). Season ticket holder at the Stick even in the Croix de Candlestick years........Lincecum is the real deal, but what is scary is that when it is all said and done, Timmy might be the 2nd best starter on the Giants...............Matt Cain gets no love, but this year, he's finally getting some run support. I saw him pitch a one hitter in San Diego last year........AND LOSE. 9-2 this year with a 2.48 ERA. If the NL wants to really win the All-Star game this year, they better put Matty and Lincecum on that team. Reminds me of the Marichal/Perry days of old. GO Gigantes!!
Cain's always been a pretty good pitcher, and this year he's finally getting the run support he deserves. However, he's also getting lucky in a few other areas (or perhaps it's more precise to say his ERA is unsustainably low based on his peripheral numbers). His K/BB rate and groundball/flyball ratio are almost exactly the same as in his previous years. That is, he's the same pitcher as last year, but he's stranding a few more runners and less of his hit-balls are dropping in for hits. He deserves to go to the All-Star game, but it's unlikely he has the same 2nd half. All that is to say that Cain isn't half the pitcher that Lincecum, whose peripherals suggest he is as good as he has been thus far.
Yawn....it;'s all about the Dodgers baby. Period.
Being an AL fan I don't really get to see or hear about him much. Those numbers are staggering. More impressive is his attitude.
Lince-makes-me...
And with that Alex wins the thread . . .
I was at the game and he was amazing......yeah stinks my cards lost, but Lincecum is the man.....lets just swallow our pride card fans
Anyone who followed the Huskies when Tim was at UW could see this coming. A Gaints fan since I was 10 (when they moved to SF, my hometown), I am very glad Tim Lincecum is a Gi'nt. Also very glad to see the 2009 team having fun!
I think Bill Simmons said it best:
A comment vote if you get the movie reference.
His video game commercial is pretty cool too.
I am a lifetime Dodger fan and I hate the Giants, but this guy is great.
I could watch him pitch all day long. Hope he stays straight and has a long career.
Most fun to watch since Doc Gooden's first couple of seasons.
Don't forget, Bumgarner and Alderson are coming, too. The missing piece is a couple of hitting studs, their offense is simply dreadful. Hopefully they'll go the the free agent market to make that happen. If they do this right, they will be set as a power for several years or longer.
