Where's Pedro? Perhaps back in the big leagues at some point soon.
Pedro Martinez, the biggest-name free agent pitcher still on the table -- with apologies to Tom Glavine – is finally starting to draw some interest.
On Thursday, reports out of Tampa Bay and the Dominican Republic said that a representative of the Tampa Bay Rays watched Martinez throw.
Later, the Boston Globe added that the Cubs were also at the workout, and that both teams had "begun to at least explore how much money it would take to lure Martinez back to the mound."
Money will be the key, of course. Martinez pitched well in the World Baseball Classic, and hoped for at least $5 million. No one bit, so Martinez waited.
Thursday's Globe report claimed that Martinez threw his fastball at around 94 mph in his workout, which seems remarkable even if he only threw a few pitches. This makes me wonder though: are the Rays and Cubs looking at Pedro as a reliever? That might be a way to save his arm and keep him healthy throughout the season.

I would love to see Pedro with the Cubs! Their bullpen needs all the help it can get! Go Cubs GO!
If Pedro is willing to come out of the bullpen as a setup man, watch for the Yankees to make a play for him, especially after getting swept by the Red Sox for the 3rd time this season. I think Pedro would relish the idea of suiting up on the other side of rivalry.
Let's see, Pedro to the cubs? Just think, big Z can teach him how to throw things besides the baseball. But seriously, they need another arm. I would rather see Glavine on the cubs, since he did damage aganist us when he was a Brave. So Jim, open the purse book, get rid of Bradley, and go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I completely agree with you Unsatisfiedmind- why not?. He has to be better then the current crop of "set-up" men the Yanks have. We can't keep waiting/hoping for Brian Bruney to return. BRING PEDRO TO NYYY!
pedro martinez in nyyankees pinstripes ... and going against boxox?...crazy idea whoever think kind of ridiculous mind.

The dude knows how to pitch. He would be an asset to anyone if you watch his pitch count and use him as a short reliever. My only question would be whether or not he could pitch on consecutive days?
Glavine to the cubs makes sense, forget about Pedro. They need some hitting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Put Pedro back in Boston clothing! He belongs on a winning team that has at least a chance to win. He should never have left Boston in the 1st place.
