Matt Wieters' debut in Baltimore tonight is getting all of the attention, but let us not lose sight of the fact that the man whose job he is taking -- Gregg Zaun -- is himself a megastar.
Don't believe me? Just check out his website, which is not the sort of thing you'd expect for a journeyman catcher with a .383 slugging percentage. If aliens came from outerspace and saw that thing they'd think he was some sort of demi-god. A warning, though: if you're at work -- or if the prog-rock stylings of Rush aren't your cup of tea -- you may want to turn your volume down before clicking.
I wonder what song Matt Wieters will put on his website . . .
(thanks to reader JohnnyNebraska for the heads up)

Wieters will have the sound of children weeping tears of joy on his site, because that's what they do when he's around.
If Zaun had a higher career slugging percentage would you have spelled his first name correctly. ;-) He spells his first name, Gregg, with 3 g's.
D'oh! Thanks, Tim. I went and fixed it.
But yeah, if he were better I probably would have gotten it right simply because I would have had more occasion to write about the dude . . .
He had some great Strat-O-Matic seasons for me. That's the only reason I knew about the mysterious third g.
thanks for the website link... its "Z" time... haha more like "ZZzzzzzZZzz", siesta time.
Matt Wieters is so good he doesn't need a website... the fans already have his back at www.mattwieterfacts.com.
Given your obvious expertise as a blogger (inability to correctly spell the subject's name in an article) what credibility or value can your article have? Answer: Very little if any at all; especially when it appears that with a modicum of Jimmy Olson like research, it is quite evident, the origin of the web site is not ego related but rather humanitarian. As the Zauns clearly state, it was started "for one reason, to help raise awareness and money for RIGHT TO PLAY. Next time get it right or be honest and come out stating you are attacking the verasity of the Zaun's motivation and commitment to the Right to Play.
