Agent Scott Boras, on why Manny Ramirez prefers Los Angeles to Boston:
Manny enjoyed his Red Sox teammates and loved the organization, but he did not enjoy living in Boston. It wore him out. He wasn't comfortable. It wasn't like Cleveland. For Manny, environment is important. He had liked living in the Cleveland suburbs. I said, "Manny, I want you to play in L.A. They've got some really good young hitters, but they need a slugger, and Pasadena's a lot like those Cleveland suburbs." He had been to L.A. only three times in his life, but once we got him there he said, "This is the spot for me."
To recap: Boston wore Ramirez out and Los Angeles is just like Cleveland.

I wonder if Boras had ever used the "[blank] is just like Cleveland" pitch to sell anything to anybody before.
It just goes to show, that guy'll say anything.
As a Northern Californian, I am bond by birth to hate all things Southern California, especially LA. But to say that LA is just like the festering cesspool that goes by the name of Cleveland is going too far. I think that perhaps the city of Cleveland hired Boras as its agent and we just haven't been told yet.
"...and Pasadena's a lot like those Cleveland suburbs." What the hell!?! How pissed is Pasadena today!
