Marcus Thames' injury has set off a chain of events that can't make any Tigers' fan happy:
The Tigers have acquired minor league outfielder Jason Tyner from the Milwaukee Brewers, team officials said today. Tyner will report to Triple-A Toledo and take the roster spot of Ryan Raburn, who was promoted to the majors today.
Jason Tyner is among the least valuable players in recent baseball history. He has hit one home run in 1,467 career Major League plate appearances and only three more in more than 3,300 minor league plate appearances. If he has been brought in a AAA roster fodder, hey, great. If he's starting any games for Detroit before they're mathematically eliminated, however, someone should probably be arrested. In all of this -- both the Thames injury and the Tyner deal -- makes the decision to let Gary Sheffield go seem a little less wise in hindsight.

He also has the name of a twelve-year-old.
Too funny!! And true.
Getting rid of the dead weight known as Gary Sheffield was the second greatest move the Tigers have made in recent memory with the trade for Cabrera being the best. Addition by subtraction my friends.
name/physique
Sheffield's hitting .154 with 1 HR in 10 games...he's been disruptive to team chemistry everywhere he's played (so why let him whine and do it in Detroit? even when he was released he was complaining about being the most athletic player on the team--when was the last time he finished a season healthy)....Detroit is tied for 1st place in the central and 2 games better than the Mets with him...and then there's the fact they are bringing Tyner up to Toledo (AAA--hence the minors) and calling up Raburn
this article ranks up there with the fact the sky is a blue hue.
An inane blog. Tyner replaced Raburn....at Triple-A no less....not Sheffield. The Sheffield move had more to do with Josh Anderson and the need to be able to float decaying bodies like Guillen and Ordonez in and out of the DH slot. There has been nothing in recent history to indicate that Sheffield has much left in his old body. And, he obviously continues to have an inflated sense of himself which portended bad times ahead.
I cannot wait until Tyner shoves all of these negative comments up your ass.
Oh man, you're not researching enough. When he played for The Twins, he was fast and had a rocket throw from the outfield. An accurate, rocket throw from the outfield.
Not to mention that the TIgers are paying Sheffield $13.6m not to play for them, while the mets get him for a cool $400k.
Also, you have no idea how much I wish that Sheffield was at the root of the Mets woes. If only.... Plus, the fact that letting him go was unwise will be all the more apparent if Detroit misses the playoffs by a game or so. If the Mets don't win a game for the rest of the year, it won't make a bit of difference as to whether or not the Tigers should have let him go.

The one HR Sheffield has in 13 AB this season makes him about a 112 times better hitter than Tyner by itself.
